Curious Conversation - Race, Antiracism & the Church
Sunday, November 16, 2025, 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
In our polarized world, having healthy dialogue about contentious issues can feel impossible.
Rev. Dr. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker, pastor of Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey, PA , has developed a model for approaching these hard conversations. Based on seeking to understand others’ perspectives — even when we passionately disagree — these Curious Conversations are an opportunity to practice listening, asking genuine questions, staying in the room with difference, and humanizing our ideological opponents.
On November 16, Pastor Stephen will lead a Curious Conversation for Donegal Presbytery, focused on topics related to race and antiracism. This will be a space to explore thoughts, feelings, and concerns that may be prompted by the new requirement that each church adopt an Antiracism Policy. The gathering is not to debate or change minds, but to be curious and seek understanding.
(We will not be working on creating policies at this event. The conversation will focus on broader questions about race, antiracism, and the role of the church.)
This is the second in a series of Curious Conversations exploring a variety of issues that are tough to talk about. The event is co-sponsored by the Donegal Presbytery Racial Justice Task Group and the Highland Presbyterian Church Matthew 25 Committee.
Everyone is invited to come listen, share, and ask curious questions. Registration is required.
