Basic Training for Ruling Elders

Rev. Alex Becker

The nominating committee called, and you said ‘yes,’ and now you are officially a Ruling Elder in the PC(USA). Want to do this well? Let us help. Join us for a dynamic, interactive, and informative module of instruction that will ensure that you are skilled and prepared to serve God in a brand-new way! This is primarily geared for the new Ruling Elder but may also be helpful to those who would like to further develop their leadership skills as Ruling Elders.

Training for Deacons

Rev. Matt Randolph & Ruling Elder Stephanie Borger

What does a Deacon do? Join us to learn about the call to be a Deacon. We will discuss how the “ministry of compassion” is demonstrated in our congregations. As a caring arm of the church, deacons can model service for their congregation and community.

Training for New & Experienced Clerks of Session

Rev. Dr. Erin Cox-Holmes, Rev. Sarah Kneier & Ruling Elder Ellie Grove

This training will include “Initial Clerk Training” and “Ongoing Clerk Conversations”. “Initial Clerk Training” is for elders assuming clerk duties for the first time and elders “coming back to clerking” after a time away. We’ll go over the core roles of a clerk and the resources available to clerks. “Ongoing Clerk Conversations” are an opportunity for elders who have been clerks to explore topics of interest to clerks -- including questions about minutes, rolls, registers, and electronic meetings -- designed in collaboration with those who will attend. In these Clerk conversations, we’ll delve deeper into what it means to be the “clerk.”

Workshop for Pastors: PDA workshop on Trauma and Response

Led by Members of the National Presbyterian Disaster Response Team

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance will offer an opportunity for conversation, sharing, and reflection for pastors. The PDA team members will provide the lens of ministry in times of distress and trauma as we share questions, ideas, and wisdom, learn from one another, and consider next steps. We will share resources and tools for building and maintaining resilience in the midst of ministry in this season. One of the roles of the pastor is to lead the congregation in a season of polarizing issues, including immigration and migrants, LGBTQIA+ rights and concerns, and other concerns facing congregations as they minister to their members and larger communities. PDA and other denominational resources will be shared in advance.
