Info About Opportunity

Pine Grove and Hopewell Presbyterian churches are seeking a full-time transitional pastor who is inspired to compassionately serve two small-community churches with a deeply rooted mission to “gather people to the promises of God in Christ” through worship, fellowship…” local outreach and support of the broader world-wide mission of the church. The churches are located in Southern York County, Pennsylvania, surrounded by a scenic and serene countryside. While rural, the community is conveniently located within driving distances to cities of York, Lancaster and Baltimore. There is also easy access to many local parks and recreational areas. It would be a privilege to welcome a new pastor into our congregations to partner with us in continuing to build upon our rich heritage as we journey with faith and hope into our future service in Christ.

Applications are now being accepted for this position. The start date is no later than January 2021, but the position would be available earlier for an available pastor.

The transitional period will allow the opportunity for long-term visioning following the retirement of a valued long-term pastor. The transitional pastor would be eligible to apply for a longer-term Covenant or Installed pastoral position, upon the invitation of the sessions.

These are the following job responsibilities:

  • Lead the session and congregation in forward-looking ministry and mission
  • Moderate meetings of the session and congregation for both congregations
  • Lead Sunday Worship, including a children's message and other special/seasonal services, with a service for each congregation
  • Administer the sacraments of Baptism, the Lord's Supper and officiate weddings and funerals
  • Oversee training and ordination/installation of Ruling Elders and Deacons
  • Provide hospital and other critical care visitation
  • Provide visitation to church members in their homes, hospitals and nursing homes, as time is available
  • Conduct new member classes when needed
  • Work with committees as negotiated in the time frame
  • Lead the session in identifying and implementing outreach in the community, including the summer lunch program for food-insecure families
  • Work with the presbytery COM to facilitate a visioning process for the future
  • Engage the adaptive leadership needed to thrive in ministry n a time of global pandemic.

Priority will be given to Presbyterian (PCUSA) Teaching Elders, or ministers from a Formula of Agreement denomination. Other ordained ministers may be considered as appropriate.

Compensation will be negotiated from the Presbytery of Donegal minimum effective salary. Benefits are negotiable depending upon the situation and mileage reimbursement is included at the standard IRS rate. The position will be negotiated with the Session, in consultation with the Donegal Presbytery's Connecting our Ministries Commission.

PIFs and resumes should be sent to the Executive Presbyter, the Rev. Dr. Erin S. Cox-Holmes, at  .
